SMART Housing
Rental Program

The City of Austin SMART Housing program is an initiative that aims to provide reasonably-priced housing to qualifying households. SMART stands for Safe, Mixed-Income, Accessible, Reasonably Priced, Transit-Oriented.

​

Households must qualify with the SMART program guidelines and the participating apartment complex's guidelines.

​

Unit availability can be found with each individual participating apartment complex.

Affordable Resale &
New Construction Homes

Affordable homeownership opportunities do exist in the Greater Austin area. From condos to detached single-family homes there is a wide array of property types. 

 

These homes typically have restrictions on income, property use, resale restrictions and appreciation restrictions. The restrictions are typically imposed on the property by a Restrictive Covenant and/or because it is in a Community Land Trust.  

 

Restrictive Covenant's and Community Land Trust's are not the same thing and each have their own set of guidelines, rules and restrictions.

To be able to purchase these type of homes, households must qualify in multiple areas such as income, assets, credit etc.
